  46.  1. Song must play in Cubic Player v1.6+, or Impulse Tracker v2.02+ for .IT
  47.     and contain no more than 32 channels
  48.  2. No remixes or remakes of other songs (even your own)
  49.  3. The only text allowed in the song file is your verified song title
  50.  4. Uncompressed entry size must not exceed 1,000,000 bytes
  51.  5. The song and zip-compressed file format must follow the specifications
  52.     provided in your entry verification
  53.  6. Entry must be in ftp.cdrom.com/incoming/MC4 before 00:00 GMT, 15 Jul 1996
  54.  7. A single version of one song may be entered
  55.  8. Entry may not be publicly released until final results are posted

  57.  _____Reasons for Disqualification
  58.  
  59.  1. The entry or author violates any of the rules above
  60.  2. The author's name or handle appears anywhere in the song file
  61.  3. An entrant votes on his/her own song
  62.  4. The song is ripped
  63.  
  64.  If you are disqualified you can not re-enter.
  65.  
  66.  The organizers of MC4 reserve the right to disqualify a song due to
  67.  unforeseen circumstances.

  69.  Changes to rules or deadlines of the contest (posted in the MC4 newsletter)
  70.  become the responsibility of all participants.  Failure to observe such
  71.  changes is not the burden of the MC4 organizers.

  82.  Newsletter.  I'm very pleased with the way the contest is running.

  85.  section.  It addresses some of the common questions people have asked in the
  86.  past two weeks.

  103.  Q: Can I change my song name after I register?
  104.  |
  105.  A: You may change your song name.  Send in a new registration form with your
  106.     new song name.  All other information must also be provided.
  107.  
  108.     In the "Comments:" section of the form, list your old song name and your
  109.     old MC4 Song-ID (if one has been assigned to you).  You must do this
  110.     before the entry registration deadline.  If you already uploaded your
  111.     entry, we will not process your request.

  113.  Q: How many rookie/veteran entrants are there so far?
  114.  |
  115.  A: Not even the organizers will be sure of this until after the upload
  116.     deadline.  Due to the setup of our entry system, an entrant can change
  117.     their mind on their desired category until just before uploading their
  118.     entry.

  120.  Q: Are co-op entries allowed?

  122.  A: Yes.  However, any person involved in a co-op entry may not enter another
  123.     song.

  125.  Q: What do I need to know before I upload my song?

  127.  A: Everything you need to know will be e-mailed to you once you submit an
  128.     entry form.  If you have not received a response by now, re-send your
  129.     form.  Most forms are now being processed within one to two days of their
  130.     receipt.

  132.  Q: I just uploaded my entry, but I can't tell if it is all there!

  134.  A: For security purposes, the general public can not read the contents of the
  135.     incoming/MC4/rookie and incoming/MC4/veteran directories.  We will verify
  136.     each song and move it to hornet/mc/mc4/rookie or hornet/mc/mc4/veteran as
  137.     soon as we begin file verifications.

  139.     If we find a problem with your upload, we will contact you.  Otherwise,
  140.     watch for your song to appear in the appropriate directory.

  142.  Q: There's nothing in the rules about giving my song to others, is there?
  143.  |
  144.  A: Rule 8 states, "Entry may not be publicly released until final results are
  145.     posted."  Technically, a release is any file which has an author
  146.     association.  This means if you give your song to another person and tell
  147.     them it is yours, you have "released" your song.

  149.  Q: If I enter, do I have to judge?
  150.  |
  151.  A: While we encourage entrants to judge the contest, it is not a requirement.
  152.     Entrants who also judge are not allowed to vote on their own entries.

  154.  Q: How will I know what place I got if I don't make it to round 2?

  156.  A: Scores for Round 1 will not be released.  This is for two reasons.  First,
  157.     we want to protect those who did not place as well as they expected from
  158.     humiliation.  Second, we need to protect the integrity of the Round 2
  159.     voting.

  163.  A: We are still working out the details of this.  At this time, it is likely
  164.     that there will be an MC4 audio/data CD.
